Located on the
picturesque Placencia Peninsula in southern Belize, The Captain’s
House is a beautiful, one story, solid Mahogany house. It’s
fully furnished with three bedrooms, well-equipped kitchen, all
nestled in half an acre of private land. Step onto the front veranda
& view the Caribbean, a mere 200 ft away. There’s nothing
like it in the entire village of Placencia.
The village itself,
is a hidden jewel with miles of white sandy beaches, ending at
the turquoise waters of the Caribbean. Placencia was an ancient
fishing village once inhabited by Mayan Indians. These days it’s
famous for its “Main Street” (locally called the sidewalk),
the narrowest in the world, according to the Guinness Book of
World records. This sleepy little village (Literally, just about
everything closes up by 10 PM.) is home to about 600 locals plus
a few tourists passing through or just hanging out. There is a
good supply of restaurants and a few beach bars to quench your
thirst.
Southern Belize is
still relatively undeveloped, making it a paradise for nature
lovers. Howler monkeys, manatees and an abundance of birds and
other wildlife can be seen on the Monkey River tour. Belize is
also known for its large coral reef system-second only to Australia’s
Great Barrier Reef. The reef protects the entire coastline making
Placencia a playground for snorkelers, scuba divers, and fishermen
alike.
Kayak the mangroves
in our lovely lagoon. Hike the Cockscomb Jaguar Preserve. Visit
the Mayan ruins of Lubaantun and Nim Li Punit. Or just relax on
the beach. You can do it all, or you can do nothing at all!
